Tutors – Performers – Collaborators
We always strive to work with teachers and performers born into the traditions that we present. Other tutors/performers will have undertaken extensive study and have a broad knowledge of the subject. All those involved in our events are excellent communicators and can present complex skills and stories in an accessible, engaging and exciting way.
Former Members of Danza Libre - Alfredo Velázquez’s award winning folk and contemporary dance group from Guantanamo, Cuba 
Guillermo Davis ‘El Iyawo’ – (El Iyawo Cuban Dance) – Guillermo is a classified first class dance teacher in Cuba but has been an integral part of numerous performances around the UK for many years. He teaches with warmth and personability backed up by mastery of the dance traditions as well as knowledge and experience of the cultural background.
José Ferrera Mulen – (Timba Ferrera Conga) José is a master percussionist, dancer and singer from Guantanamo Cuba. He is a dazzling performer and natural communicator who has been teaching children and adults Cuban and African percussion for over 10 years here in the UK. His enthusiasm and talent are engaging and infectious. His company Timba Ferrera Conga has been providing Caribbean music education in the Eastern region for many years.
Yescica Livesey – Yescica has also taught many Cuban dance styles throughout the UK and is an experienced performer. As well as her outstanding dance performance and teaching talents she is a talented singer and percussionist.
Lenys Rousseaux Donatien – Lenys is an powerful and exuberant dancer with wide experience and knowledge of the Afro-Cuban tradition.
Galia Delgado – Galia received the highest accolades for her dancing in Cuba and uses her incredible talents in performances and workshops.
Other Collaborators
Caspar James - Caspar has studied Afro-Cuban and Afro-Brazilian percussion for over 10 years including a years study in the Caribbean. He is an experienced singer, story-teller, workshop leader and performer. He has an MA in Religious Studies.
Alex Jones - Alex is a talented and versatile percussionist who has studied with José for many years. He has great experience as a workshop leader and performer.
Ian Livesey – Acclaimed photographer and cinematographer. Ian has a deep love and understanding of Cuban culture and its many and varied traditions.
Los Guloyas (led by Momon) – Too many to mention individually and a genuine community group that depend on each other for support, music, dance and inspiration. Each one is an outstanding artist having learnt the tradition from a very young age. There is currently a junior group of Guloyitas whose age ranges from toddlers to teenagers! Everyone has there own particular way of interpreting the dance/drama tradition. Together they create one of the most spectacular festivals in the Caribbean region.
Nadal Walcott - Outstanding artist and tradition bearer from San Pedro de Macoris; home of Los Guloyas. A multi-linguist he has an artists eye for detail and is a great teacher and transmitter of his proud cocolo tradition in the Dominican Republic and internationally.
Edis Sanchez - Also based in the Dominican Republic, nationally and internationally respected as both musician and teacher. Edis is founder and director of Drumayor an institution dedicated to the investigation and diffusion of the traditions and diversity of Dominican culture through music. His wife Joana is renown throughout the Caribbean as a folkloric dance performer and instructor. He has worked with UNESCO and Los Guloyas on a number of their international trips. He is working with Culture Crossroads to bring Los Guloyas to the Uk.
